I'm currently swapping between Final Fantasy V Advance (GBA) (and I'm loving the fixes to the translation. The PS1 port sucked.) and Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories (PS2)

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VI Advance (loaned game catridge) on my DS, so far I've gotten past the river valley escape part and now I'm at the Moogle selection part where there three character(s) scenarios to choose from. Just for fun, I'll pick Locke as my first scenario, here goes...

Temporarily halting FFVI and playing Homeworld 2 (PC). Gah, Level 4 is a pain with carriers and frigates coming in!

Currently halting Homeworld 2, I got up to Level 6, I think it was, then got tired of playing an RTS (for now).

Playing The World Ends With You (TWEWY) on the NDS, the battle system certainly is different than other RPGs I've played, but that makes it more fun. I totally recommend it if you have a NDS and like JRPGs or RPGS in general. If you don't like those genres, either rent it first or borrow it from a friend (if they finished it). I'm planning on completing all 7 days for this game, and then the side quests or whatever (as of typing this I'm on Day 4). Having some trouble learning the new battle gestures, but I'll get used to them soon enough. Smile

Well, with Wow tending to be rather tiresome lately, a bunch of my friends and I have gotten back into Maple Story (PC). If you guys ever get on, I'm Blastcloud on the Windia server.

Other than that, I've been on and off trying to finish up with Xenosaga Episode 1: Der Willie Zer Macht (PS2) and I'm really hooked on Final Fantasy IV (DS) Quite possibly the greatest remake and re-translation of any game, ever. And considering it was my second favorite game of all time anyway...

A couple weeks ago we dusted off my Dreamcast and played some Power Stone and Soul Caliber. It was quite a bit of fun.

At first glance, Persona 3 appears to be your average game on a DVD that you put in a PS2 and play. In the hands of an otaku, however, it is not. It is a magic, bouncing fairy who demands blood sacrifices in the form of your precious free time and in exchange gives you lines upon lines of metaphoric coke to snort.

Seriously, its bad... in a good way.

Imagine if you will, a mixture of one part JRPG to two parts time management dating sim. It would seem like oil and water, no? Well, its not.

Well voice acted, An excellent soundtrack, and a near spot on translation. Seriously, even the -chans, -kuns, and sempais are intact.

Honestly, if you come across this game, play it. Period.

Still playing TWEWY, I finished the first seven days or chapter 1 of the game. Not knowing that there are two remaining chapters, looks like I have to play a bit longer than I anticipated, I should have expected this as it is produced by Square Enix. I'm sure it would not be worth the price of the cartridge if it only had one week of in-game gameplay. Well, time to get my rusty battle skills back up to par because I'm starting chapter 2 this month. Smile

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 has taken everything that P3 did right, and made it better. All the little quirks are streamlined, the Social Link system is vastly improved (S. Links with party members actually do something now), and battle is just as fun and rewarding to the tactical mind as ever. Again, a wonderful translation, though I've heard that it's more of a localization in that respect (A lot of liberties taken w/ dialogue apparently.) If anything though it just makes it more enjoyable to a native English-speaker.

A random note of interest: Shortly before I got P4 I picked up a copy of P3:FES (the "special edition") and started a new file. What I failed to notice the first playthrough was the little in-joke poking fun at P2. Whether this was from me not noticing due to the many years since I've played P2 or if I picked different options and the joke didn't come up I don't know.

"Name your character Tatsuya and I'll change mine to Maya"

>I get it. Funny.
>Huh?

"Wow, didn't think very many people played those games... Don't run into any Jokers!"

Very edited, but that's the gist of the joke.

On the MMO front some of my friends and I are giving LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online) another try. It's a lot funner this time around, cuz we're actually sticking together and helping each other out a lot.

In the handheld race, Pokemon Diamond has recently won out over my PS1 Classic copy of Suikoden on the PSP. I keep falling asleep playing it though, so my time is racking up like crazy. I'm racing myself to see if I can get my fourth badge before I hit 100 hours. I figure my actual played time is around 12-ish.

Tried out The Sims 3. I find that not having to see a loading screen every time you want to go to the community center or whatever is quite nice. Not only that, but you can seamlessly visit stores and as well as send your Sim off to work and so forth - all within the same map/environment.

Tested out the Trine demo that came out yesterday (coming soon for the PC and PS3), you control three different characters with different abilities; one who can use her archery bow and grapple on to things, one who can slice and dice things, and one who can magically move objects and create crates. Although the demo was two missions long, with the array of abilities you have at your control there are more than one way to get through a challenge.

Completed Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 the other day, now I'm getting through BiA: Earned in Blood.

Coming from playing a few games of the Call of Duty series, BiA certainly isn't one of those games where you can Rambo your way through each mission; the game play and tactics heavily rely on having one team (usually the fire team) providing a suppressive base of fire while you and/or the second team (usually the assault team) maneuver and flank the enemy. I learned this the hard way when, on a few occasions, wanted to quickly end the mission because I was replaying it the umpteenth time and rushed either my character or one of the teams to get in there and take the enemy out. In either outcome it resulted in replaying from the last save checkpoint.

Playing Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) at the moment and I have to note that I watched the anime series first before playing the game. What I remember from the TV series is slightly different from the actual game, for instance in the TV series Welkin escapes imprisonment to save his sister Isara, while in the game Isara rescues Welkin from being temporarily detained. The differences between the two will definitely go from there no matter if you played the game first or watched the series first. I have a feeling that since I enjoyed the TV series, I'll definitely like the game -- despite the slight differences in the story. Pretty much, if the game's OP is any indication, the events occurring near the end should be the same.

I just got the game, so I haven't gotten very far into it, but the way battles play out is a mix of real-time and turn-based battle features. For example, when you're on the battlefield (the game dubs it "Action Mode" or almost first-person view), moving characters around during the player's turn are in real time and if an enemy soldier spots one of the characters you are controlling they will open fire and vice versa if it is the enemy's turn. With that said, this being a tactical turn-based real-time strategy RPG game, it goes without saying that I'm going to spend many hours on this.

Went on a bit of tangent these past two days. Played and completed Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Very good game, is all I have to say. Props to Naughty Dog for bringing this franchise to light. I have Uncharted 2 on deck which I'll get to play in a few weeks.
